Think of Mike Leigh films and you probably think of claustrophobic domesticity, trite person-to-person drama and an up-close view of the challenges of life in contemporary Britain.

Centring around a woman named Pansy who suffers with bouts of anger and depression, Hard Truths – the latest Leigh-directed tragicomedy to grace cinema screens in 2025 – is no different.

But that doesn't mean there isn't a little room for a positive musical moment or two along the way...

Poke track 'Something Deeper' provides an unexpected moment of positivity, with it's pumping summer house vibes. Found on the album Summer (Is A State Of Mind), it's about as far from your average Mike Leigh melancholy as you can imagine... but maybe that's why it works!
